REvived Furniture brings preloved furniture back to life by injecting colour, pattern and a lot of passion. The result of this reanimation is a range of bespoke interior pieces waiting to be reloved by you.This process of turning something used and unwanted into bespoke and desirable objects is called upcycling. REvived Furniture is able to see the potential of discarded pieces and transforms them into something individual and distinctive. Individuality and green living are two major trends in the interior world at the moment and to upcycle furniture epitomises both trends.Upcycled furniture is eco-friendly and gives you an alternative to mundane, mass produced high-street furniture while adding a character piece to your interior. Our designs are recognised for their originality and uniqueness and are targeted at customers who are looking for a one-off piece that is exclusive to them. The idea for REvived Furniture was born from the love of used furniture, as each piece has a different story to tell, and the desire of giving preloved pieces (that would otherwise have been forgotten about) a new lease of life. Each piece is carefully restored, reworked, and then painted by hand to update its look. Upcycling furniture means changing the appearance while keeping the original character and charm of the furniture, which ultimately means adding value to something that had previously been seen as worthless. The classic colour chart was the key inspiration for the collection and dictates the overall look. The stripes and blocks of colour give each piece a very geometric, yet dramatic feel which is softened by the use of gentle pastels. A RANGE OF UPCYCLED FURNITURE

This collection consists of furniture that had once lost its appeal and was about to be discarded but REvived Furniture was able to see their potential and saved these unwanted pieces by upcycling them. The upcycled range was inspired by colour charts. Each piece has been painted by hand and was named after the shade it was painted in. All used furniture has a story to tell which adds to its vintage character, but the updated look and the new name mark the beginning of something special, and ultimately, continue their story as a bespoke piece of furniture. WHAT IS UPCYCLING

WHAT IS UPCYCLING?

Upcycling is the process of saving a product from being thrown away by either turning it into something else i.e. changing its purpose, or, by enhancing its appearance. Both options maintain or improve the quality of the product and ultimately add value to it. The first recorded use of the term upcycling was by Reiner Pilz in an interview by Thornton Kay in 1994. Five years later it was the theme of a book written by Gunter Paul and Johannes F. Hartkemeyer, and in 2002 it was used by William McDonough and Michael Braungart in their book Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things. They compared upcycling to the "downcycling" of recycling a plastic, for example, into a lesser grade plastic which downgrades the quality of the material.The eco-friendly process of upcycling reduces the use of raw materials and the energy used in the manufacturing of consumables. The fact that upcycling is great for the environment is not the only incentive. Equally important, is the actual crafting, which is fun for the maker and the uniqueness of the new product which, creates pride for the end-user. Upcycling can be seen as a form of functional art as it creates one-off pieces that can actually be used in everyday life.The idea to take a waste material or a used product and to upcycle it into something else has been around for longer than you might think, examples are handbags made out of juice packs, jewellery created from old cans, and lamps constructed out of plastic bottles which became popular in the 1990s. On the contrary, upcycling items by improving its look, is a recent phenomenon and trend which reflects the mood of the moment of saving things rather than throwing them away, and the renaissance of the 'make do and mend' philosophy. There is a variety of upcycled items available, ranging from modern illustrations on old china, to chairs that are revamped with knitted covers, and discarded furniture that has been painted by hand. ABOUT REvived Furniture

REvived Furniture is the brainchild of Kristin Rosenberg, who graduated from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design in 2006 with a first class honours in Furniture Design. Kristin works from her studio in North London and undertakes the entire upcycling process by herself. Each piece is restored to the highest quality and lovingly painted by hand. Upcycling furniture gives her the opportunity to combine her passion for furniture, her love for colours, and her appreciation for anything vintage. It is that special feeling that comes with old and used pieces of furniture that fascinates her. All of them have a unique story to tell - a story that Kristin does not want to end and, therefore, she creates new chapters for them by enhancing their look while harnessing their original character. Her colourful collection of upcycled furniture was inspired by the colour chart collection of fashion designer Henry Holland, which stood out to her for its clever application of a simple everyday item like a colour chart into fashion.
